Harajuku Shironuri w/ Colorful Kimono Sleeve Dress & Geta

Sari is a Japanese student who is a member of Tokyo’s shironuri subculture. You might remember her from these previous Harajuku shironuri street snaps.

When we met Sari in Harajuku this time, she was wearing a colorful layered dress with kimono-inspired sleeves, jeweled shironuri makeup, a sheer headpiece on her green hair, and geta sandals that she purchased in Kyoto.

Sari’s favorite fashion designer is Takuya Angel and she is a member of the recently-formed Japanese idol group NECRONOMIDOL (listen to a song here). For more info, follow Sari on Twitter.

This photo is from a series of street snaps taken while a group of shironuri were hanging out in Harajuku before a photoshoot with Australian photographer Delly Carr. The photographer will be posting the studio photos eventually either on his Instagram or his Facebook!

Born in New Town, Kobe, tofubeats is one prolific beatmaker.

Although he released his first full-length under his current moniker in April 2013, under Warner Music, the versatile tofubeats has released as dj newtown and ibonne since 2006. His back catalogue also includes remixes for popular J-idol units Momoiro Clover and 9nine, as well as the charismatic YUKI and Tokyo-based R&B singer Matt Cab, in his track “Touch The Sky” featuring music and fashion icon VERBAL from super-duo m-flo.

As a solo musician, he’s spread his signature hazy hip-hop soundscapes by releasing on netlabel Maltine Records and has uploaded his tunes onto Bandcamp, a true Net warrior who’s finally getting recognition in the world outside of the computer screen (and even getting air-time on MTV Japan!), and has played some of Japan’s more well-known fests, including the 2013 installment of the eclectic SonarSound.

JAMALSKI IN TOKYO JAPAN : in the nineties

Jamalski, agitator since 1991. This is not a marketing slogan. Who else but this MC born in New York City can boast about driving BPM counters crazy, making clubbers and party people going hysterical and breaking the barriers between Hip Hop, Ragga, Jungle, Funk, House, Dub, Techno and Drum’N’Bass? From his debut featuring KRS One in 1990 to this inflammatory Ruffnecks Revenge release, Jamalski has always put himself above cliché, easiness and well-established genres.

When he talks about his vision of Drum’N’Bass through this album, Jamalskidoes not speak about what we think we already know: “For me, Drum is futuristic Punk-Rock, a very underground sound which takes its roots in Hip Hop, Dub, Rave scene or Techno from Detroit but also in Bad Brains music and from all the artists who broke musical barriers…I’m part of the people who don’t make music to please radio programmers.”

very time he holds the mic on stage, Jamalski brings an enormous charge of adrenaline t…

A Short Profile of Japanese Artist TWOONE In “Cast A Shadow”

TWO ONE - Cast A Shadow
from Michael Danischewski Plus 1 month ago Not Yet Rated

Australian film maker Michael Danischewski has teamed up with Japanese born, berlin base artist, Hiroyasu Tsuri- aka TWO ONE- to deliver "Cast A Shadow", A filmic Portrait

Cast a Shadow deliberately eschews a process driven thematic, choosing instead to take the viewer on an intimate exploration of the artist's many characters and the creative beast that lies within. An investigation into Twoone's psychological portraiture series, the film delves deep into the artist's subconscious and demonstrates the physical manifestation of these thoughts as they arise during the creative process.

The resulting film is as innovative as it is insightful as we watch the artistic progression unfold from subconscious thought, to cognition and into its final iteration as a physical object.

filmed, edited and art directed by Michael Danischewski
Additional filming and direction by Andrew johnson

Underground Hero : Love To Hate Me - Lamborghini Bosozoku Yakuza

Style is personal, fun is universal. That's what you need to embrace before watching this film. Morohoshi-san is living between the lines, somewhere in that gray section. Mixing with the undesirables and modifying his Lamborghini in ways most of us would never dream of doing. His style is unique and questionable but one things for sure, he's too busy having fun to care what you think! And that's truly what makes him a cool character.

Techno Udon

Sunday 6 july 2014 : Techno Udon

If noodle making was always this much fun, we might do it more often. Asakusabashi's Tensai Sansujuku is dragging the kitchen onto the dancefloor at this unorthodox party, where revellers can knead udon with their feet while busting moves to techno tunes. Assuming all goes to plan (and we're guessing things might get messy), they'll be making batches of thick wheat noodles from 7am. Just don't try breakdancing or anything, yeah?

Time :
Daytime 7am-2pm, evening 5pm-11pm
Admission Adv ¥2,500 plus one drink, same-day ¥3,000 plus one drink

adidas Japan has reached out to some of its country’s best for a special run of tees based on Japan’s team kit. Working with Porter, LUKER by NEIGHBORHOOD and Bedwin & the Heartbreakers, the T-shirt pack gets its name from the act of going into a huddle or coming together — most fitting as both soccer and this collaboration pack is a team effort. All shirts feature each brands’ distinct logos along with a different stripe of color across the back, with Porter being the only one that brandishes the Japanese flag. Look for these to drop over at END on May 31 for a price of £49 GBP (approximately $85 USD).

EVISU x D*Face Partner for D*Face’s Solo Exhibition in Asia

Japanese denim label EVISU will be launching a special capsule to tie in with D*Face’s solo exhibition in Asia. There, the British contemporary artist presented his visual commentary on the endless feed of information and images directed at society. The result was his signature comic-style blend of these images and elements of the artist’s subconscious. With both parties sharing similar attitudes for subverting and reinterpreting the established, the limited-edition collection combines playful images of Ebisu, the Japanese god of prosperity with D*Face’s iconic D*Dog character.
For those in the area, the artist’s original artwork will remain on display at EVISU’s Hong Kong flagship store until June 16.
