NIGO’s 2-5 Café - New Cafe

Following an initial look into the “Pharrell Burger,” we take a further look into the interior of NIGO‘s 2-5 Café. The quaint little space takes an almost paradoxical approach by fusing modern aesthetics with earthy wooden installations. Serving up some excellent coffee to complement the selection of home comfort foods such as burgers and curries, the space offers a relaxing atmosphere to all. Check out the images above and make sure to stop by if you find yourself in Tokyo.

Peanuts x A Bathing Ape 2014 Fall/Winter Collection

In the latest high-profile collaboration from A Bathing Ape, the streetwear staple aligns with Snoopy and the Peanuts gang for a follow-up from earlier this year. Some of the more memorable pieces can be seen along the lines of A Bathing Ape’s signature camo pattern that welcomes a resting Snoopy integrated into the motif. Elsewhere, graphic-driven T-shirts include varying instances of Snoopy and BAPE branding while a vinyl toy rounds out the collection.

Yasuda Kyokosha Freak Show - exhibition Tokyo

Freak shows are known to have existed in Japan even in the Edo period, but they reached peak popularity with the growth explosion of the entertainment industry in the early 1950s. Yasuda Kyokosha is one of the longest-running companies in the biz, having operated shows and obake yashiki (haunted houses) for almost nine decades now. However, the display of biological rarities at festivals all across the country is hardly blooming business these days, so the Yasuda folks had plenty of time to dig through their storage facilities and archives for old adverts, signboards, obscure exhibit items and the like, the best of which will be displayed at this unique exhibition. Prepare to witness mermaids, 'electric men', 'squid girls' and snake charmers, in addition to an installation by the Gokiburi Combinato art unit. A talk with sociologist Masaki Ukai and Kyoichi Tsuzuki will take place on August 30 – see the official website for details.

Hajime Sorayama x British Knights “Art and The Future” Pack

British Knights releases its new “Art and The Future” pack done in collaboration with veteran Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama. Featuring leather and suede uppers, the collaboration presented a chance for Sorayama to apply his signature metallic style to sneakers as a medium – something he had always wanted to do. The reflective silver finishes are nicely contrasted by rusty bronze accents, giving both the Control Mid and Control HI silhouettes a realistic element of weathering and a play on the otherwise full-metal palette. Matte grey pieces and flat shiny laces give added dimension while keeping with the robot-inspired look intact.
The collection is now available at select dealers including the HYPEBEAST Store.
