A.P.C. Reopens Its Flagship Store in Kyoto
A.P.C. has finally reopened its Kyoto flagship store on December 19, after a period of relocating and renovation. With Kyoto’s role as the seat of traditional Japan, the new store interior does much to align age-old Japanese craft and design with A.P.C.’s famously pared-back aesthetic. Past the dense stone facade, one finds a refreshing lightness in the interior’s use of an unvarnished French white oak structure in the middle of the space that delineates a volume to display accessories. This contrast between stone and wood can also be seen in the change in flooring, as well as the grey cushioning of the wooden benches, thus echoing the uchi-soto, or inside-outside divide in traditional Japanese architecture. The shop itself sells men’s and womenswear collections, in addition to denim, accessories and various lifestyle items. Head over to A.P.C.’s newest Japanese outpost the next time you find yourself in the former Japanese capital.
